January 2020 Favorites

Hello, my beauties! Today is one of my favorite types of posts- Monthly Favorites! Today I’m going to share with you what I’ve really been loving this month. I have a collection of skincare and makeup to share with you today. I would also love to know what your monthly favorites are, so be sure to share them down below- I love finding new products to try! I will link to as many products as I can. None of the links are affiliate links, I earn nothing if you use them or purchase from them. I provide them to make shopping a little bit easier if you see something you want to try.

Let’s start with skincare, shall we? First up is a body cream in a new scent from Bath and Body Works called ‘Calm’. This lotion has key notes of Cedarwood and Orange. I’m usually not one for citrusy scents but the cedarwood balances it out nicely. I love the Bath and Body Works body creams, they’re thicker than the usual lotion making them great to use at bedtime. I actually have two body cream loves this month, the other is the famous Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. I received this in one of my Allure Beauty Boxes and at first, I was unsure as to if I was going to like it. When I finally did try it I was pleasantly surprised. It’s tropical but not nauseatingly so. The scent isn’t overpowering and it’s thick but not super thick so that I can only use it in the evening. The last skincare piece I’ve been loving was sent to me through Influenster for review and it is the Olay Eyes Retinol 24 eye cream. This eye cream is highly moisturizing and creamy. With this product, a little goes a very long way. It has helped especially with the outer corners of my eyes which tend to be a little more discolored than my undereye and eyelid area. I’m so glad I got to try this product because it has really made a difference in my nighttime skincare routine.

Up next we have some makeup products, starting with the base and ending with finishing sprays. First up is the foundation I have fallen head over heels with, the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation in ‘Fair Sand’. I got this during the last spring VIB Rouge sale at Sephora but it wasn’t until recently that I started using it on the regular. When it says full coverage it truly means it. One pass with the sponge is a medium/full coverage and a second pass is full coverage through and through. What I really like is that, on me at least, it doesn’t look cakey even after I have applied concealer and powder. The other foundation I’ve been really like is the Colourpop No Filter Foundation in ‘Fair 30’. This foundation has really good coverage but also allows your own skin show through which I really like. It’s not heavy at all, sometimes I’ve been known to forget I have foundation on when wearing this- it’s that good! I like the pump bottle, I find two to three pumps to be the perfect amount for a full face with going back over problem spots. Now for the setting sprays. Well, this first one isn’t a setting spray per se but I use it before I use setting spray to help melt the makeup into my skin. I’m talking about the Glow Mist by Pixi. When I first received this I wasn’t too sure about it because of the oil mixed in but I have really come to love it. The oil doesn’t make my skin look oily or anything but it doesn’t make it feel hydrated and gives a bit of extra glow when you apply it then pat it in. This is the first Pixi product I’ve ever actually liked and I’m pretty sure that when I run out I’m going to easily fork over the $15 for it at Ulta. The setting spray I’ve been loving this past month is the Kat Von D Lock It setting mist. I know there has been a lot of controversy around Kat Von D and I may not support her views on things but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy her product. I got this at IMATS this year because I’ve been wanting to try it and I really like it. It’s a contender with my Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray which is my ride or die. This really, well, locks in my makeup and makes it last all day and night.

Now onto lips. Oddly enough, I purchased all three of these things at IMATS this year and now I’m in love. Let’s start with the Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick in ‘Stone’. I am so glad there was a rep showing these lip products who helped me choose this color because on first look it’s not something I would have even looked at. Yet when I said pinky-nude, she pointed me right towards ‘Stone’ and I haven’t been able to stop wearing it! It is actually quite comfortable on the lips for a matte liquid lipstick and the pigmentation is really nice too. It lasts as long as I don’t eat something oily or greasy (which is the same for any liquid lipstick really). I bought my first Lime Crime products at the show this year, I got their Plushies Liquid Lipstick in ‘Rosebud’ and their Velvetines Lip Liner in ‘Pinky Swear’. I don’t think I will ever buy from their site after what happened but in person or at Ulta I will do. I now want to get more Plushies and Velvetine Lip Liners because I. LOVE. THEM! This combination has been my go-to since I tried it at the show. It’s the perfect combination because the Plushie is a sheerer formula of liquid lipstick so the lip liner shows through a bit. I think if I had to pick one lip liner and lip product combo to wear for the next year it would 99.99% be this! In. Love.

One of the two eyeshadow palettes I’ve loved this month is the Morphe 39L ‘Hit the Lights’ palette. I know Morphe is one of those brands where you either love them (me) or hate them. I love how this palette is broken up into eyeshadow combos of eight with seven basic shades in the center. I haven’t had a chance to try all the looks I want to with this palette but trust me, when I do, they will go up here and on my Instagram (@ emmadelfosse_mua). I love how each area is so different from the one next to it, I especially love the lower right-hand corner. All matte, which isn’t my thing, but bright colors, which is my thing. I really do love all of the Morphe palettes I own but the two ‘artistry’ palettes are in my top 3 with the Jaclyn Hill palette taking number one.

My last favorite palette from this month, and subsequently my last product, is the Huda Beauty Nude Obsessions eyeshadow palette in ‘Light’. Again, I picked this up at IMATS (take a shot every time I say IMATS- I could start a drinking game!) and I have LOVED using it. The mattes are creamy and easy to blend and the shimmers really pack a punch, especially when applied with your finger. This could be looked at as similar to her New Nudes palette, which I own and love, and I can see that but only in the shimmers. I could take this with me on vacation and have a different look every single day just from this little nine pan palette. If you’ve been considering purchasing either the light, medium, or rich I say do it. You won’t regret it.

Whew! That was one heck of a post! I hope you enjoyed browsing through what I’ve been loving this month, I know I love posts like this. Later this week keep your eyes out for my favorite hair styling products for short hair.
