Harry Potter x Ulta Makeup Collection First Impressions

Hello my beauties and thank you for stopping by to check out my little post! I went to Ulta the other day and was greeted by something glorious. Makeup. But not just makeup… Harry Potter themed makeup. I flipped out in the middle of the store because I had heard that there was an Ulta x Harry Potter collection but I just figured it would be sold out everywhere and I’d never be able to get my hands on anything. I wound up getting my stuff on the Ulta site but I got part of my best friend’s Christmas gift in store. I’ve swatched them and tried the products only once, so I figured a first impression would be better than a review. To check out the collection, follow this link to the Ulta site. I bought the Ravenclaw makeup bag, two of the lip crayons, lip gloss, and jelly blush. Let me show you what I think upon first use.

The berry toned color on the left is called ‘Order of the Phoenix’ and the lighter pink one on the right is called ‘Amortentia’. There are three different colors that you can find here on the Ulta website. Upon first impression, they are quite creamy and hydrating. They are definitely not a matte formula. I find the color payoff to be great, not very muted but not so intense I’m nervous to wear it out. They also glide on really nicely and the crayon like time makes getting a more precise application easier.

I also got the lip gloss that they offer. I got the shade ‘Howler’ which is like a mauvey pink shade, which I love. There are a total of four shades you can pick from, check that out here. This has a doe foot applicator. I did find that you have to pull a bit to get the wand and applicator out of the tube so you can use it. The color I picked is gorgeous and today I paired it with ‘Amortentia’ on the bottom and this on the top as a topper. There is no shimmer in this lipgloss, which is a nice change of pace.

The last makeup product I picked up from the release is the Pygmy Puff jelly blush. You can find it here at Ulta. I’ve never used a jelly type blusher before but this intrigued me. The color is more on the pink side with a hint of shimmer. I’ve only swatched it on my hand but it feels amazing. It feels smooth and hydrating, like it will really give me that ‘lit from within’ look that everyone seems to be searching for right now. I don’t like the idea of applying it with my fingers but I don’t want to use a sponge with it either, I’ll have to try it out and report back.

Finally, they have makeup bags (good sized ones too) for each of the houses. I got my friend Slytherin because that’s her main house and I got Ravenclaw because that’s my main house. It comes with a zipper closure and on the zipper there is a really nice tassel in the house’s colors. For example my Ravenclaw one is blue with a silver strap around where it meets the jump ring it’s looped around. I’m guessing Gryffindor’s would be red and gold and Hufflepuff yellow and black. I was surprised at how large these bags are, I think they would work great for makeup if you’re only going away for the weekend or even a long weekend if you don’t pack much. Or you could use it for pens and pencils, the possibilities are endless.

In conclusion, upon my first impression I am quite impressed with how the products swatched and felt. Next is to do a real wear test to see how long each product sticks around and what circumstances do they work best in. That being said, I will be posting those findings over on my Instagram page, so be sure to follow the link down below and subscribe if you want to see those reviews and see the looks I create and don’t share here. I would love it if you would consider subscribing to my blog, your continued support truly does mean the world to me. My YouTube channel will be linked below as well. I’m going to start making videos for that channel in the next week or so and I would love for you to subscribe to see new content coming your way!
